Dancing to Live Music Workshop Series 2011

with Nada El Masriya and Layali El Sharq,

Featuring Simon and Joe

(the band that played for Fifi Abdou in 2010 and Randa Kamel in 2011)

The first workshop will be held on July 8th from 5pm to 7:30pm

and we only have a few spots left.

Take your belly dance beyond mechanical technique and become an artistic and fluid bellydancer.

Here's a description of all four workshops:

The first workshop will be July 8th Friday at 5 pm to 7:30 pm

at the Danforth Studio.

In this workshop you will learn:

•Taaseeem and variations, drum solo tricks, intro and finales;

•How to dance to live music with confidence and recognize the changes;

•How to recognize modes via Maqams;

•How to bond with the music and reflect the tempo;

•How to compose your improvisation on the spot – and how to adjust your choreography on the spot;

The second workshop will be 4 to 5 weeks after the first.

In this workshop you will learn:

•Lyrical songs and Saidi styles, intro and finales;

•How to dance to live music with confidence and recognize the changes;

•How to recognize modes via Maqams;

•How to bond with the music and reflect the tempo;

•How to compose your improvisation on the spot.

Third workshop will be 4 to 5 weeks after the second.

In this workshop you will learn:

•Drum solo again and folkloric styles recognitions (Saidi, Alexandrian and baladi Taaseem), intro and finales;

•How to recognize modes via Maqams;

•How to bond with the music and reflect the tempo;

•How to compose your improvisation on the spot;

Fourth workshop will 4 to 5 weeks after the third.

In this workshop you will bring everything you learned together and tie it to instrumental understanding and emotional expression

These workshops have very limited space for personalized attention and to best facilitate your development.
