Classes will cover Brazilian Zouk fundamental moves through various applications and pick up where Mari left at her previous workshop.

Students will learn different types of turns, connection and leading-following techniques, further concentrate on head movements, cambres (drops), spinning as well how to disconnect/reconnect

with the partner without breaking the flow of dance.

Additional attention will be given to styling aspects for both leaders and followers.

Classes will be open to all levels though basic exposure to Brazilian Zouk is recommended. People who did not attend the first workshop with Mari are encouraged to join as Mari and Pablo will review the material and bring everyone up to speed. For those who attended in June it will be an opportunity to refresh the material. Mari and Pablo will continue on with new material after that.

We asked Mari what she expects from the workshop:

I'm looking forward to seeing the Brazilian zoukers of TO again! We had such a blast during my first ever visit to Canada in June and I expect it will be an even more fun event this time around, with Pablo joining us also.

Again I'm looking forward to sharing with you what I have learned from 17 years of dancing with people from all over the world. Learning new things of course gives us more options, but most important is a good solid foundation and a connection between the dancers. In this workshop you'll learn more about rhythm, how to move with it, connecting with your partner and incorporating basics of leading and following. The workshop will include practical steps and tips that will help dancers to enjoy dancing with people of all styles, including head movements and lead. We'll talk some about differences in styles, but mostly we'll focus on what dancers around the world have in common so we can expand our dancing horizons!

About Mari & Pablo:

Mari has been dancing zouk lambada for 17 years, and has taught private and group classes for more than 10 years in Buenos Aires, Argentina, New York, Boston, Los Angeles and San Diego in the U.S., Japan, Israel and Toronto. She taught and performed at the 3rd and 45h International Zouk Lambada Congresses in Porto Seguro (2009 and 2011), and also served as a judge for the 3rd World Zouk Lambada Championship in 2011. She began dancing in Japan where she learned her first steps with Aochan, and she was later influenced by Gilson, Braz and Patricia Cruz. Her philosophy of teaching zouk lambada is to share a dance that is both intuitive and natural, in harmony with the music and one's partner, based on fundamentals that will allow dancers to enjoy dancing with people of all styles.

Pablo has been dancing Zouk since 2003, when he was motivated to learn by his sister who lived in Porto Seguro (a city long associated with Zouk Lambada). He trained with Gilson Damasco, who taught him numerous teaching techniques in addition to passing on his enthusiasm for the dance. Along the way, Pablo was influenced by dancers such as Braz, Didi and Mauro Fuster (from Argentina). He has participated in many Zouk-Lambada Congresses (including Barcelona and Amsterdam) and was invited to be an instructor at the International Zouk Congress in Porto Seguro, Bahia, Brazil in 2009 and 2011 (Berg´s Congress), Congresso de Zouk Lambada em Sao Paulo in 2009, First Bachata and Zouk Lambada Congress in U.S.A. in Washington DC (2010), Congresso de Zouk Lambada de Rio de Janiero in 2010 and 1º Congreso Internacional de Zouk - Lambada en Buenos Aires (2011). For the past four years, he has been teaching Lambazouk classes at the Carlinhos da Silva Dance Studio in Buenos Aires. Pablo has also been giving advanced Lambazouk classes with Romina Hidalgo (Rominita) for the last three years.
