Shiamak’s Winter Funk ™ 2011 – Batch 1 Schedule

Shiamak’s Summer Funk and Winter Funk shows have been running successfully for almost 10 years in Toronto. Be a STAR! Get ready to sizzle and set the stage on fire at Shiamak’s Winter Funk 2011. Have Feet, Will Dance!!

The class begins with a 15 minutes dance warm-up as Shiamak describes it, “Dancercise” (dance workouts). The next 45 minutes are dedicated to training the students for the dance that will include technical work and choreography. Students are taught a dance routine to a particular edited song and are trained in the finer art of performance. Winter Funk is “Your chance to BE A STAR!” Every participant succeeds in gaining Confidence and emerges to be a true star. Each year Shiamak gives more and more people a platform to experience ‘performing arts’ and discover the STAR within them!!!

There will be TWO Winter Funk ™ Batches before the participant goes on stage. Each batch you learn one song and you get an opportunity to perform 2 songs on stage or you could join in only for batch 2 and still perform 1 song for the show.

Official certificates will be given only to the students who finally perform at the

Winter Funk™ show on December 10th 2011 at Living Arts Centre, Mississauga.

Please note that in order to be part of the Winter Funk ™ Show in December, it is mandatory for all the students to attend Winter Funk ™ Batch – 2 as well, which will commence by the end of October

Attached below is our class schedule for Winter Funk 2011 – Batch 1, fee structure and requirements for class. Most of the classes listed below are twice a week.

Class details and updates:

Fee Structure:

Winter Funk Batch 1 - $175.00 for 12 classes.

Shiamak’s Dance Yoga - $120 for 12 classes (No discounts applicable)

Drop In or Pay As you Go: You can try out a single class for $17.00

• If students miss more than one class, then they pay $ 17 per class for the remaining set of classes.

• Students are required to pay for the classes before they enter to start the first class.

• Minimum number of people required to run a class is 7. SDI holds the right to cancel the class if this minimum requirement is not reached.

Minimum Attendance:

There will be 12 classes in this batch. It is mandatory for the students to do at least 9 classes out of the 12 classes, in order to be part of the dance performance at Winter Funk Show. This is done keeping in mind, the best interest of the student as well as the other students in class.

Parents, friends and family will not be allowed to watch any of the classes in order to uphold the privacy and comfort of other students in class.

We appreciate your co-operation.

On The Spot Registrations:

Students will need to come at least 30 minutes before the start of class time on the first day at the respective venue. Registrations are on first-come-first serve basis. Please register early to ensure a spot in class and to avoid any disappointment.

Please note that all the students are required to submit a passport size photograph on the first day of class with their names, venue and batch i.e. kids, Pre-teens, Adult Beginners written behind the photograph at the registration desk.

We accept Debit/Credit/Visa/Mastercard/American Express payments as well or you may pay by cash or cheque to the order of “Shiamak Davar International (Canada) Inc.”

Dress Code: Tracks, sweat pants, t-shirts, tights etc. Your dancewear should allow you to move with ease; so stretchable clothing is always advisable. No Jeans/Denims in class.

As footwear you can wear sport shoes, running shoes, jazz shoes, or dance barefoot.

Must haves: A large bath size towel or an exercise mat and a bottle of water

Promotions to the next level of class:

Preteens to Preteen Advance: Students can move up to Pre-teen advance after completing 3 entire batches in the Pre-teen’s class

Adult Beginners to Adult Elementary: Students can move up to Adult Elementary after completing 3 entire batches in the adult beginner’s class

Adult Elementary to Adult Intermediate: Students can move up to Intermediate after completing 3 entire batches in the adult elementary class

Discounts offered for Winter Funk Batch during phone registrations:

-DANCE MORE FOR LESS:

Enroll for Winter Funk Batch 1 and Winter Funk Batch 2 together, between August 31st till September 2nd, 2011 from 11am - 2pm (Only) and avail $50 OFF on your total fees.

-EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT Enroll for Winter Funk Batch 1 only and get a discount of $10 in the total fees if you call and register between:

August 31st till September 2nd from 11am - 2pm (Only)

-SENIORS’ DISCOUNT: 60 years and above will receive a 60% discount (pay only 40% of the fees).

70 years and above will receive a 70% discount (pay only 30% of the fees).

80 years and above will receive an 80% discount (pay only 20% of the fees).

-FAMILY DISCOUNT:

If 2 or more members of the same immediate family join the same session at the same time (may be at different venues) they receive a 10% discount on the total fees.

-REFER A FRIEND DISCOUNT: If you refer an absolutely new person (who has never done any of Shiamak dance classes before) to join the entire session at the same time (may be at a different venue) then YOU will receive a $20 Gift of Dance Certificate. (For more details please email us)

-CONDITIONS APPLY:

None of the Discount offers will be combined. You may avail of only one discount offer at a time.

IMPORTANT:

-Students may avail of the above discounts only at venues where Shiamak Davar International (Canada) Inc. manages the classes. Discounts are not offered at venues where SDI runs classes in association with community centers or clubs.

Phone registrations help you book a spot in class in advance. Registrations done over the phone are safe. You will receive a receipt number from us as confirmation.

Welcome Letter

Please make a note of the following so you have all the information about Shiamak classes:

1. Winter Funk has been conceptualized and designed by Mr. Shiamak Davar who is a celebrated Singer, Choreographer, Director, Actor and has won many awards including the prestigious National Award for choreography.

2. Rights of Admission reserved. These dance classes are exclusively for amateurs and not for professional dancers.

3. For the final show, Shiamak Davar may or may not be present, depending on his schedule.

4. Shiamak classes are conducted by an experienced and a dedicated faculty member, who have been trained by Shiamak

5. Shiamak Davar may not be personally present at the classes.

6. Students will not reproduce, use or transit in any form, any of the Exercise and Dance routines taught to them in class, in part or whole for any commercial purposes, unless allowed by SDI in writing.

7. Costumes & Props will NOT be provided by SDI and is NOT included in the fees for the workshop. Students are requested to arrange for their own costumes / props and not spend more than $40 for the same in each batch.

8. There will be a Parent Teacher Meeting (for Kids & Pre-teen classes only) at the regular class timings outside the class on the 4th class of the batch. Parents are requested to attend the same to discuss the costumes and props for the show.

9. There will be another Parent Teacher Meeting (Kids & Pre-teen classes) at the regular class timings outside the class on the 8th class of the batch to discuss the Technical circular and give out details for the final show. Parents are requested to attend all scheduled Parent-Teacher meetings in order to have a clear idea of the costume and prop required for their child’s performance.

10. Winter Funk 2011 will be a ticketed event. Parents, family and friends need to purchase tickets for the same. There will be no complimentary tickets given out to any students/parents. Details of the ticket sales will be given at a later date.

11. SDI will not be responsible for any loss or theft of any valuables like mobile phones, jewellery, etc in class and on the day of the Winter Funk Show.

12. Parents are requested to drop their children and leave the premises and come back to collect the child once the class is over. Parents are requested not to wait and sit in the corridors at the class venue, unless there is a specific waiting area assigned by the venue. This is a mandatory practice to be followed as instructed by the Venue to SDI.

13. Classes missed will not be made up, except those cancelled by SDI. Students will be informed regarding the rescheduling of the classes at the class itself. (This can be on any other day depending on the availability of the venue in question). Students/Parents are requested to adjust to last minute changes (if any) in days and / or timings of classes, especially due to unforeseen circumstances In case of any natural calamity or other unforeseen events. SDI may not be in a position to inform all the students regarding cancellations of class for that particular day. Students are requested to call the local office or email us at and enquire about the same.

14. If your child has a medical condition and is required to take prescribed medication in the event of a medical condition occurrence, you must keep the prescribed medicines with the child. SDI will NOT administer any medication in these circumstances. Also, in case of any medical condition the student must submit a NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE to the Instructor from a medical practitioner stating that he/she is fit to attend the dance classes and/or perform at the show's.

15. SDI’s classes and the Funk Shows will be covered by the media. Your enrollment in our classes confirms that you have no objection to the same and will co-operate with SDI for all such publicity, television and media coverage.

16. SDI will not be responsible for any injury or harm that may occur to your child / you during the class and / or the performance event.

17. The rules, dates, show timings etc. are all subject to change without prior notice. SDI’s decision in all matters will be final and binding
