The Nutcracker Festival 2011 of Hamilton presents: The Nutcracker Ballet
The Nutcracker Festival 2011 presents: The Nutcracker Ballet. Children, young and old, will be spellbound as the classic Nutcracker fairytale, enchantingly revitalized in storybook form by prima ballerina Veronica Tennant and artist Toller Cranston, is magically brought to life by the world-famous Ballet Nacional de Cuba, and rising young stars of Hamilton's own Canadian Ballet Youth Ensemble.
This year's Nutcracker Ballet is a dazzling spectacle of stunning costumes, impressive special effects and fantastical scenery all serving to showcase the magnificent talent of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba ~ four of whom are named among the world's best 100 dancers of the 2010-2011 season by the prestigious Dance Europe magazine.
Viengsay Valdes brings a glittering glamour to the role of the Snow Queen and an otherworldy fancilfulness to the Sugar Plum Fairy; Dani Hernández is majesty personified as the Snow King; Alejandro Virelles portrays old-world charm and grandeur as Clara's adored Nutcracker Prince and Osiel Gounod may well be the sassiest Mouse King you will ever meet!
Graced with a highly-prized appearance by Veronica Tennant, The Nutcracker Ballet is sure to amaze and awe-inspire everyone. "The story of The Nutcracker lives with the freshness of tradition because there will always be a desire and a need for fantasy" ~ Veronica Tennant.
A post performance reception on December 9th will welcome one of Canada's most beloved prima ballerinas, Veronica Tennant as well as Olympic Medalist and world-renowned artist, Toller Cranston at The Sheraton Hamilton Hotel (tickets sold separately).
The Nutcracker Festival 2011, revolving around the breathtaking beauty of The Nutcracker Ballet, has something to mesmerize and charm people of all ages and from all walks of life.
Whether it's the kinetic sensuousness of The Mixcracker, an evening of six contemporary and traditional ballet performances by Ballet Nacional de Cuba or The Artcracker, an exhibition of the richly imaginative art work of Toller Cranston; Ballet Talk by dance critic Gary Smith; The Sugar Plum Fair, a unique and exclusive marketplace or The Chocolate Dream, a blissful brunch and silky dessert paradise ~ there is something to delight everyone.
