Looking for High Quality Dance Instruction and University Preparation?
Toronto New School is excited to collaborate with Cadence Dance Studio's Youth Professional Training Program to offer a high performance dance program for TNS students looking to pursue both dance at a high level and an academic program that will allow for study at the post-secondary level. The addition of dance to our program is yet another example of our interdisciplinary approach to education, our commitment to the arts and the type of program initiative that sets us apart from other small school environments.
Cadence Dance Studio offers students classes in ballet, contemporary, Jazz, Pointe, Creative Movement, body conditioning, and all varieties of these styles. Cadence Dance Studio is home to Cadence Ballet and its three companies, which enables Cadence Dance Studio to offer professional dance expertise to all levels of dancers.
Cadence Dance Studio offers students an environment where their individual dance education is top priority, actively seeking out opportunities for all aspiring artists within the field of dance. By offering the opportunity to enter the Royal Academy of Dancing examinations, children are able to set goals and actualize them, encouraging a healthy minded dancer.
Admissions Process
We encourage all students interested in the High Performance Dance Program to visit the school prior to auditions if possible. As the Cadence Dance Instruction and Toronto New School timetable are designed to work together, students who successfully audition, are expected to register with TNS upon a successful admissions interview. An initial inquiry to the school can be made by phone or email admissions@torontonewschool.com. An inquiry by phone is forwarded to extension 330. A member of the admissions team responsible for initial inquiries and will be in touch with your family to:
Answer preliminary questions about the academic program at TNS
Arrange for a personal tour if requested
The Audition
Students must audition for entry into the High Perfrmance Dance Program. The audition process begins with open classes to all interested dancers. Auditions for students from grades 9-12 occur at Cadence Dance Studio, March 31st: 4:30pm
Contact: Courtnae Bowman at cbowman@cadenceballet.com
The audition class will be comprised of classical ballet technique and pointe work. Dancers auditioning at this level should have a minimum of three years experience in ballet. Exceptions may be made at the Grade 9 level only if the child has extensive experience in another intensive athletic field, which may compliment dance such as Rhythmic Gymnastics.
- If you cannot make this date, alternate arrangements can be made with the instructor.
The Academic Interview
Once a student has had a successful audition, an application to TNS must be completed and returned to the school by a prospective family, all academic documents will be reviewed by the admissions team.
1) An Initial interview for admissions is conducted by the Associate Head of School and one member of staff. The purpose of the interview is to get to know the prospective family and student and ascertain whether or not the student is the right fit for TNS. A successful first interview will result in an offer of admissions to the School.
2) A final interview for admissions may be conducted by the Head of School in a situation where an entry test may be required or to provide the school an opportunity to ask additional questions arising out of the initial interview.
-Students who do not audition successfully, may still interview and register in our regular academic program and re-audition for entry into the dance program for the subsequent semester.
--Students who audition successfully, but are not accepted into the schools academic program may continue in the Cadence Studio program, but without the opportunity to earn Ontario Credits in dance.
