Ryerson University - Assistant Professor Faculty Position in Dance

Ryerson University is known for innovative programs built on the integration of theoretical and relevant learning. Over 50 undergraduate and graduate programs are distinguished by a professionally focused curriculum and strong emphasis on excellence in teaching, research and creative activities. Ryerson is also a leader in adult learning, with the largest university-based continuing education school in Canada.

The Ryerson Theatre School invites applications from outstanding candidates for Assistant Professor Level in the field of Jazz. Applicants must have a minimum of 10 years of university level experience in teaching both dancers and actors the idiom of jazz dance as well a significant track record in creating innovative choreography. Candidate must have an extensive background in the discipline’s historical roots, diversity of styles and its various influences over the past century to the present day as well as proven capacity to teach a minimum of two other related areas such as musical theatre and social dance.

Masters degree required preferably with a focus on the history of dance as it relates to jazz particularly in the Canadian context. First hand knowledge and experience of the national dance milieu through participation in conferences, master classes, adjudications and creative activities is considered an asset.

The deadline to apply is December 15, 2005. Please note that the Department will not accept applicants by fax or e-mail. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, teaching evaluations (if available), and three letters of reference (sent directly to the Chair) to:
