CAREER OPPORTUNITY
Performing Arts Associate ? Harbourfront Centre Performing Arts
Currently an employment opportunity exists in our Performing Arts
Department for a full time Performing Arts Associate. Reporting to the
Manager,
Performing Arts, this position will be responsible for the curation,
planning and implementation of family and youth oriented programmes in a
performing arts context for Harbourfront Centre. Also, this position
will act as the Artistic Director of the Milk International Children's
Arts Festival (MICFA).
Other major responsibilities include:
ï Research and prepare programme content for presentation for
family and youth oriented programmes. Develop themes/concepts, propose
programming
objectives, prepare and manage budgets, identify and contact
artists/performers, facilities and determine programme schedules.
ï Develop programme ideas as part of the PFA year plan process.
Prepare programme plans and identify groups and individuals to
participate and support the programming. Write programme proposals
ï Oversee and monitor the implementation of the programmes in their
entirety.
ï Principle liaison with Marketing, Publicity, Production,
Sponsorship, Technical, Community & Educational Departments and
volunteer personnel for programmes.
ï Negotiate artists' contracts and act as corporate spokesperson on
family initiatives.
ï Maintain and communicate an awareness of performances which may be
of interest to Harbourfront Centre
ï Liaise with community and educational organizations to develop
supported programming within the context of all similar Harbourfront
Centre initiatives.
ï Liaise with the Sponsorship and Fundraising Department to identify
appropriate sponsors and provide necessary information necessary for
grants applications and sponsor liaison.
ï Evaluate programme success and effectiveness in meeting programming
objectives.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and 2
years related work experience, or 4-6 years experience in directing,
producing, administering or performing in live theatre. A strong
understanding of the youth and family market and programming is
preferred. Widespread knowledge of the current and past global and
local arts scene and HFC initiatives is a must. This position requires
creativity and imagination with the ability to assess and make artistic
judgements on a variety of performing arts and determine their
suitability for Harbourfront Centre events. The successful candidate
will have the ability to negotiate contracts with artists/agents.
Extensive leadership and interpersonal skills are required when dealing
with diverse groups and coordinating with other departments and outside
groups. Additionally, he/she will have excellent communication skills
(written and verbal) and possess the ability to develop working
relationships when liaising with outside groups, the general public,
media and Harbourfront
Centre personnel, community and educational groups as well as government
and foreign diplomatic personnel. The successful candidate will have
excellent computer skills (spreadsheet applications, word processing,
database, Internet, email). Strong organizational and time management
skills are needed in order to meet programme deadlines. Also, he/she
will have proven budget and project management skills. This position
requires some travel and a flexible work schedule (evening and weekend
work). Bilingualism (French/English) is considered an asset. For
