Public Affairs Coordinator
Canadian Opera Company invites applications for the position of Public
Affairs Coordinator. This position is responsible for securing annual
operating and special project funding from all levels of government.
The Canadian Opera Company (COC), based in Toronto, Ontario, and is the
largest producer of opera in Canada and among the largest in North America.
The COC is enjoying unprecedented international acclaim for its productions,
its singers, its orchestra and its chorus. From Edinburgh to Melbourne, New
York to Hong Kong the COC is known for its exciting, innovative productions
and the world-class quality of its work.
At home, the company has recently announced record-setting subscription
revenue for its 2003/04 season. The COC broke ground on its new home, Four
Season Centre for the Performing Arts, on April 11, 2003. The Canadian Opera
House Corporation (COHC) is responsible for raising the $150 million for
this project. The COHC is a separately incorporated charitable organization,
the purpose of which is to construct the opera house.
Reporting to the Director of Finance & Administration the successful
candidate will be responsible for:
Identification, creation and submission of grant proposals to all levels of
government;
Grant maintenance including reports as required, collection of funds,
records and files;
Initiate and maintain government contact on all grant files;
Coordinate appropriate recognition of government funding on all COC
materials;
Invite and host public sector guests at COC events, including opening
nights, receptions, press conferences, and other events;
Coordinate appearance of special guests, eg Governor General, at
performances. Plan and implement special recognition occasions for three
levels of government funders;
Encourage and coordinate attendance of local politicians at school tour
performances;
Create and implement seating plans for public sector guests at performances.
The successful candidate should have a minimum of three years experience
fundraising in the arts including budgeting skills. Excellent communication
skills both written and oral are essential.
