LIVE ON STAGE: A Hip Hop Dance Performance Workshop

This 6 week course in hip hop dance performance is geared towards people who love hip hop dance and are hoping to turn professional or professionals who are interested in expanding on their performance skills. Regardless of intent, all participants are guaranteed to be challenged while having fun.
Throughout the 6 week period a new principle will be taught each week. Classes are 90min and will take place weekly on Saturday afternoons.

WEEK 1: Space, Trust & Projection
An examination into the use and awareness of space while on the stage. Exploring issues of trust between fellow performers and delving into the state of projecting ones energy while in performance
WEEK 2: Drama & Character Development
Learning to abandon self consciousness, “Flesh out”, and cultivating intention of the prescribed character.
WEEK 3: Feeling in the body
Being in the moment and allowing the flow of pure creative expression. Dancing with commitment, focus, surety and readiness
WEEK 4: The Art of the Quick Costume change
Developing the skill of the quick change. Maintaining calm, focus, professionalism and respect to your fellow performer during times of performance related stress.
WEEK 5: Expecting the unexpected
Looking into what is needed to handle unexpected circumstances that may happen before or during a performance. (i.e. Stage fright, loss of music, forgetting choreography, unappreciative audiences, etc.)
WEEK 6: The Freestyle
Expanding the repertoire and comfort zone that the dancer operates within. Trusting whatever “comes out”, “selling it”, Swagger and “the eye of the tiger”.

Dwayne got his start in 1996 with Toronto’s premier hip hop dance company: DO DAT ENTERTAINMENT. While under the tutelage of world renowned choreographer Luther Brown, Rude Boy cemented his place as one of the company’s top male dancers. After numerous videos, tours and live performances he left the company to pursue his dream and cultivate his talent freelance. Throughout his career in the Canadian entertainment industry Rude Boy has danced for artists such as Jully Black, Temperance and Glen Lewis and has appeared in films and commercials along with artists such as Joe and Sisqo. He has also had the pleasure of training in New York City and has worked with top industry Hip Hop dancers and choreographers Laurie Ann Gibson, Luam Keflezgy and Manwe Addison. Rude Boy has been described as a dynamic performer who is totally in the moment and gives his all while on stage.
