The Barre presentation that was scheduled for Monday morning as part of the Toronto Transit Commission and National Ballet “Move You” joint promotional campaign turned into a public relations disaster.
Taking place hidden in a corner of Union Station, it was subject to a number of issues: First, it was held at Union Station which is still in the throes of reconstruction. Second, it ignored using the larger spaces, the York Concourse or the Main Union Station Hall. Instead it was 80 x 30 foot backwater as in seen in the screenshot, with big columns and half-working lights
The dancers looked embarrassed – and well they should be for putting on a exhibition in this under-construction space.
And no, the TTC booth attendants did not know the directions to the show place; No, neither did the 3 security guards encountered in a search for show place; No, neither did the Via Rail people at the ticket counters or their Info desk!
Again let me emphasize the company dancers looked totally embarrassed.
In sum, this showing was not only an embarrassment for the dancers and the National Ballet Company but also for the TTC, which throughout its system, could only come up with this sorry space for a prime promo.
