The Canada Salsa and Bachata Congress, which was attended by thousands, is delayed again for another year. They send this message to their supporters:
Dear dancers,To call this past year and a half “challenging” would be an understatement. Cancelling our 2020 in-person event was incredibly difficult, and the ongoing uncertainty over the past year has made it impossible for us to plan for an in-person 2021 Canada Salsa & Bachata Congress. With current COVID-19 restrictions in Toronto only allowing for indoor gatherings of 5 people, we cannot see a reality where we can host the Canada Salsa & Bachata Congress this October, only 3 months away.We have, yet again, had to make the heart wrenching decision to cancel the 2021 in person event.Even if indoor capacities will be increased, many borders are still closed (including the border between Canada and the United States) and we have no idea when borders will open or when flights will be resuming in a more normal and regular manner. There is also still a 2-week mandatory quarantine and self-isolation period for anyone flying into Canada from any other country. The Canada Salsa & Bachata Congress is something that we, and thousands of others, look forward to and work towards all year long. We are honoured that the event has become an important platform to showcase Canadian and international talent and we know that cancelling it again this year affects many businesses, studios, instructors, dancers, competitors, performers, DJs and supporters. We are exploring the possibility of running a one-day, in-person competition that would take place in early October in Toronto, and/or an online series of workshops and virtual competitions. Please like and follow our social media accounts for all the latest updates and announcements. We are heartbroken to have to cancel our event for a second year. We hope you will continue to support our future events and the dance community in whatever capacity possible. We cannot wait to dance together again soon.Keep dancing!
