ZAHRA’S ARTISTIC PRACTICE is rooted in her African heritage, its customs and traditions. Inquisitivity fuels her creativity. She constantly seeks ways to create bridges where all generations can learn and grow from one another.
Zahra Harriet Badua is a Ghanaian dancer/teacher/choreographer originally from Montreal, Quebec. Her passion for dance started at a very young age as a means to learn and understand her African heritage. Through discovery and training, she is skilled in Traditional West African, Afro-Caribbean folklore, Afrobeats, Dancehall and Soca. In 2018, Zahra established her own educational and performance-based brand called ZahraMoves. The educational aspect provides classes/workshops to educate people on the complexities of Black dances from the African Diaspora as well, teaching about West African and Caribbean cultures through movement. The performance aspect provides emerging artists of color opportunities to be involved in dance works and showcases. As a dancer, she has been privileged to perform in Toronto, Montreal and Winnipeg with dance companies such as Coco Collective, Alpha Rhythm Roots and BlackStars Collective. Lastly, she is the administrative assistant of dance Immersion, a black-led arts organization that produces, promotes and supports dancers and dances of the African Diaspora.
