Life is a journey of entrances and exits, twists and turns and forks in the road. Along this journey, we cross through many proverbial doorways of change. Historically, the door itself has been used symbolically across all cultures, with transition and metamorphosis as the themes most commonly portrayed. In literary terms, a door may represent a passage from one place to another, between different states, and between lightness and darkness. Additionally, an open door can be seen as an opportunity to invite discovery and investigation. Counter to this, a closed door often suggests rejection, protection, secrecy, exclusion or imprisonment. These themes resonate in each of our lives, time and again.

Momentum Dance Toronto’s choreographers and dancers are thrilled to take you on a journey through a series of portals and doorways, and of twists and turns. Our dancers use choreography to express both the symbolic and literal interpretations of life, dreams, events and stories as we open and close doors to our own experiences.

Regardless of what pathways we have already taken, we are reminded that when one door closes in life, another one inevitably opens – leaving room for new possibilities and most importantly, for the hope of new beginnings, new dreams and new stories to tell.
