For months, we’ve been discussing the history, the people, the songs, and the culture that formed the dances we love. And in this very special, LIVE MUSICIAN edition, we’re taking advantage of talent passing through and bringing one Joshua Fialkoff of The Fried Bananas/The Downtown Shimmy to help expand our muscial horizions (or discussions)!
Joshua Fialkoff is an internationally touring pianist, vocalist, bassist, bandleader and arranger who draws inspiration from swing and blues legends including Fats Waller, Ray Charles, Count Basic, Otis Spann, Gene Harris and many others. He contributes his talents to a variety of ensembles, and is a core member of The Downtown Shimmy, a Philadelphia-based Rhythm and Blues band, and The Fried Bananas, a swing and New Orleans blues group whose audience includes swing and blues dancers from around the world.
If you want to geek out on all the nitty-gritty, this class is for you! If you want your pressing questions answered, remember that curiosity killed the cat… but this class is still for you! If you want to better understand the dance, this class is for you! Basically, you won’t want to miss this very unique offering!
Classes take place in the Dance Studio located past the gym. Buzz security to let you in and take the elevator to the Lobby (L) on the 4th floor. You’ll often find us hanging out there before class or you can have the concierge direct you to the Studio.
