Born in San Francisco in 1942, Danny Grossman joined the Paul Taylor Dance Company in 1963, performing and touring for a decade. In 1973, he joined Toronto Dance Theatre in Canada and later became a faculty member at York University. His acclaimed choreography, including “Higher” in 1975, led to the establishment of the Danny Grossman Dance Company in 1977.
Grossman crafted over 60 works, touring Canada and worldwide. His creations featured in the repertoires of esteemed institutions like Paris Opera Ballet and The National Ballet of Canada, as well as in training programs such as Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. Recognitions include the Toronto Arts Council Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2008, the Danny Grossman Dance Foundation aimed to reconstruct his repertoire.
Danny passed away in Toronto on July 29, 2023, leaving a lasting legacy.
