December 7, 2008: On today’s Season Finale of “So You Think You Can Dance”, Nico Archambault, a 24-year-old contemporary and hip-hop dancer from Montreal, was named Canada’s Favourite Dancer! He receives $100,000 and and a 2009 C230 with Sport Package and 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic transmission courtesy of Mercedes-Benz Canada.
The winner was determined by viewers’ votes and Archambault had been a favourite from the beginning of the series. Although, by his own admission, he wasn’t a strong technical dancer, Archambault was able to execute all genres to much acclaim from the judges.
The handsome hip-hop/contemporary specialist with multiple facial piercings and a mini mohawk was up against three other finalists in the finale: Allie Bertram and Miles Faber, both of Calgary, and Natalli Reznik of Toronto.
“I can’t find words strong enough to express it – I’m just so happy. I wasn’t expecting to be on the show and I wasn’t expecting to stay that long,” said Archambault, who beat out a field of 19 other contestants to win the title of Canada’s Favourite Dancer.
“If you’re doing the right thing, if you’re doing what you should be doing and if you feel at the right place, good things are going to happen to you.”
Nearly 3.5 million Canadians cast votes to choose the winner, said host and MuchMusic VJ Leah Miller. In its nearly three-month run, “So You Think You Can Dance Canada” has been a ratings success, averaging about 1.4 million total viewers every week.
