Turn the Beat Around Movie
A new dance-flick “TURN THE BEAT AROUND” featuring several of Toronto’s top dancers is scheduled to appear on MTV on Friday February 26 at 10pm!
The two-hour telefilm focuses on one girl’s struggle to realize her dreams – no matter how out of reach they may be. So You Think You Can Dance Canada Season 1 competitor Romina D’Ugo takes the lead role.
Toronto and Hamilton are transformed into the present-day Los Angeles, where Romina (Zoe) plays a determined young dancer who convinces a wealthy club owner to open a modern disco where young people can connect through dance.
The movie also features SYTYCD Canada Season 1 finalists Miles Faber, Natalli Reznik, Caroline Torti, Bre Wong and Tamina Pollack-Paris, as well as City Dance Corps instructor Ofilio Coto Portillo, who all help portray the trials and tribulations of LA dancers.
“With the So You Think You Can Dance Canada talent, brilliant choreography, a energetic script and appealing characters, TURN THE BEAT AROUND tells a story that is the true embodiment of the diversity and power of dance,” said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. “This coming-of-age story doesn’t miss a beat!”
Dance choreography is by SYTYCD judge Tré Armstrong who combines cutting edge hip hop dance moves with the sensual vibe of classic disco.
Albert Gomez of Toronto’s Strickly Salsa Studio provided assitance with much of the partner-based choreography. His “expertise in salsa and amazing dance tricks was such an asset,” says Tre, who looks forward to working with him again in the future.
TURN THE BEAT AROUND also stars David Giuntoli (Without a Trace, Privileged), Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL), Shauna MacDonald (AARON STONE), David Keeley (TERRY), Jennifer Miller, Dewshane Williams (FLASHPOINT), Simin Aamin (FORBIDDEN SCIENCE), Kevin McGarry, Shawn Byfield (Hairspray), Ofilio Portillo, Natalie Krill (M.V.P.) and Raquel Gil-Jimenez. Other stars Adam Taylor Brooks (“90210”), David Giuntoli (“Without a Trace,” “Privileged” ) and Brooklyn Sudano (“90210”).
Romina D’Ugo also has a supporting role in the feature film Funky Town with fellow Season 1 competitors Danny Arbour and Francis Lafrèniere, who will be performing choreography by SYTYCD Canada judge Jean Marc Genereux.
